Extruded Netting

Rigid, structured tubular and flat mesh formed from LDPE, HDPE, or polypropylene. The standard construction for produce bags, firewood bundles, pallet containment, and erosion control applications.

What is extruded netting?

Extruded netting is made by pushing molten polymer through a die with a mesh pattern. The result is a rigid, structured mesh with a fixed geometry — the strands are fused at every intersection, so the netting holds its shape under load and does not unravel when cut.

This construction makes extruded netting the standard choice for applications that need a defined shape and structural integrity: produce bags that stand up on a retail shelf, firewood bundles that hold their form outdoors, and erosion control blankets that stay in place on a slope. Pursell Manufacturing produces extruded netting in LDPE, HDPE, and polypropylene, in custom diameters and roll lengths.

Properties of extruded netting

Construction

Strands formed by extrusion; fused at every intersection. Mesh geometry is fixed and does not shift under load.

Feel

Rigid and structured. Holds shape without support. Does not conform to irregular surfaces the way knitted netting does.

Cut behavior

Does not unravel when cut. Each intersection is a fused bond, not a loop, so cutting the netting does not cause the mesh to run.

Materials

LDPE (low-density polyethylene), HDPE (high-density polyethylene), polypropylene (PP). Material choice affects stiffness, chemical resistance, and UV performance.

UV stabilization

Available for outdoor applications including erosion control and firewood retail display.

Sizes

Custom diameters and roll lengths. All sizes made to order.

Common applications

Produce bags

Onions, garlic, citrus, potatoes, and other root vegetables are packaged in extruded tubular netting for ventilation, weight handling, and retail display. The rigid mesh holds the bag shape and allows buyers to see and handle the product.

Firewood bundles

Extruded tubular netting bundles firewood for retail sale. The rigid mesh holds the bundle shape, withstands outdoor conditions, and displays the product clearly.

Pine straw bales

Tubular extruded netting contains pine straw bales for retail and landscape supply, keeping the material compact and easy to handle.

Erosion control

Flat extruded mesh is used in erosion control blankets and slope stabilization systems. The open structure allows vegetation to establish while holding soil and mulch in place.

Pallet and container covering

Extruded flat or tubular netting acts as a moisture and dust barrier over palletized loads during transport and outdoor storage.

Christmas tree baling

Extruded tubular netting is the standard construction for Christmas tree balers. The rigid mesh compresses and contains the tree for transport and retail display.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between LDPE and HDPE extruded netting?

LDPE (low-density polyethylene) produces a more flexible, softer mesh. HDPE (high-density polyethylene) is stiffer and more rigid, with higher tensile strength and better chemical resistance. HDPE is preferred for heavy-duty containment and outdoor applications; LDPE is common in produce bags and lighter-duty packaging.

Does extruded netting unravel when cut?

No. Because the strands are fused at every intersection during extrusion, cutting the netting does not cause it to run or unravel. This is one of the key practical advantages of extruded over knitted construction.

Is extruded netting available in UV-stabilized formulations?

Yes. UV-stabilized extruded netting is available for outdoor applications including erosion control, firewood retail display, and agricultural packaging. Specify UV stabilization requirements when requesting a quote.

How is extruded netting different from knitted netting?

Extruded netting has a rigid, fixed mesh geometry — strands are fused at every intersection and the netting holds its shape under load. Knitted netting is made from interlocked loops of yarn, producing a soft, conformable mesh that adapts to the product shape. Extruded is preferred for containment and produce packaging; knitted is preferred for surface protection and delicate goods.
